Road works planned.

Congestion Measures.

The small stretch of road between Cauldwell Roundabout and Westoe Roundabout, South Shields, is apparently badly congested and 16 accidents have happened here in the last three years. So the Council are planning a range of improvements to this length of road which include:

  • a North bound bus only lane
  • improvements to Westoe Roundabout
  • improvements to the traffic lights at the Grosvenor Road junction
  • improvements to the traffic lights at Westoe Village
  • anti-skid surfacing
  • lay-bys on the section of dual carriageway

Curly was not aware that this section of Sunderland Road was much worse than many others such as Chichester Road, Imeary Street, and Beach Road, but I guess they have statistics and surveys to support the measures suggested. If you would like to learn more, or have your say about this length of road, then you can voice your opinion at a meeting of the Riverside Community Area Forum at South Shields Town Hall, 6.00 p.m. Monday 15th. January.
