Spinning around

"Timely" Council Press Release.

I have often said that there is a "spinning machine" at work within South Tyneside District Council, and they are good at it, however, sometimes their little pieces are just a tad too obvious in intent. The good news waiting to wing it's way to the unsuspecting public is that there is 17,500 pounds to spend in the Whitburn, Cleadon, and Boldon areas, very nice indeed, but the Council has no idea on what to spend it on, so the spin merchants are asking the public to come up with ideas at next week's Cleadon and Whitburn Community Area Forum.

This piece of news, of course, would not have been spoiled if it was put on ice until next week's meeting, or even longer until ideas had been formulated. We all understand that it will take months of consultation and deliberation before decisions are made. These decisions will be made at a subsequent meeting of the Forum involving local residents and their elected councillors. So what is the value of releasing this news now, along with news of a presentation of a petition?

Could it be that a by-election will shortly be taking place in the Cleadon Village and East Boldon Ward? What a shameful manipulation of the Council's "news management". There doesn't appear to be anything "new Labour" surrounding this old trick!
