Gartside

Gartside's swipe at Sunderland

While chairman elect Niall Quinn continues his search for a new manager at Sunderland AFC, Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside (pictured) continues to snipe and ridicule at press speculation about Quinn's interest in Sam Allardyce.

Gartside said:

"Would a man like Sam Allardyce, who came second in the race to become England coach, somebody who has a fantastic relationship with myself, move to Sunderland, who have been relegated to the First Division, on shaky ground financially and a new club in essence because of the takeover?
"He has three years of a ten-year deal remaining and he is not going anywhere.
"Bolton are a side that has finished in the top-ten of the Premier League in the last three years and there are only four other clubs who have done that – Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea – and for Sam to go anywhere else it would be a huge club."

Consider, this is his third such outburst in a week! Is he privy to something that the rest of us don't know? He is starting to sound increasingly desparate, it certainly looks like he is fighting tooth and nail - publicly - to hang on to Allardyce!
