Crime partnerships do work!

The Evening Chronicle reports tonight that an estate in North Tyneside bedevilled by anti-social behaviour and drug related crime has benefitted from a partnership between Northumbria Police, private landlords, and the local council by removing (evicting) some of the residents responsible for the problems. The area in Willington Quay has suffered from debris and rubbish being thrown into gardens by anti-social neighbours, needles and other drug abuse equipment discarded in areas where children play, stolen vehicles being driven around the estate, and general noise and disturbance throughout the night. Is it not time that our own council on South Tyneside fully participated in such a partnership and started to evict some of the householders identified by Inspector Simon Charlton at a recent CAF meeting? I have asked the council for details of current, impending, and past evictions actioned as a result of anti-social behaviour. That was two weeks ago, and to date I have been unable to get a reply from either councillors, officers, or South Tyneside Homes despite pressing and reminding them. This really is not good enough for those who have to live with the problems on a daily basis! It was a simple question, not too demanding, and the information ought to have been forthcoming by now, I really question whether our council wishes to support our local police in making our estates safer and more socially acceptable.
