Teen travel scheme to suffer?
_________________________________________________________________
Mike Parker the Director General of Nexus has warned that a replacement teen travel scheme "may not be good enough" in comparison to it's forerunner. There are fears that many teenagers may decide to drop out of further education if the transport costs become prohibitive. The new scheme will not be able to be given as much resource as the previous concession simply because of the PTE's liability for free travel for pensioners, they were boxed into this corner by Gordon Brown's committments, unfortunately, as we all know, the government have not seen fit to provide a sufficient level of finance to cover this. As a result some bus routes have been axed or curtailed, and now students look as though they will suffer too. This IS NOT what our pensioners would have preferred, many of them were willing to pay a small standard charge for their travel and most of the rest of us are totally mystified as to how the Treasury cannot find savings of 5 million pounds to cover the shortfall in the PTE's budget!
