Thursday, December 07, 2006Council bosses 'cock-a-hoop'Exam results improve in South Tyneside. Schools in South Tyneside have turned in improved results for exams in our primary schools, with a marked improvement in English as shown in the national league tables published today. Epinay Business and Enterprise School in Jarrow came 58th. in the country for value added, showing it's own remarkable improvement. Coun Jim Foreman, lead member for children and young people at South Tyneside Council, said: "I'd like to thank pupils and staff for their hard work and dedication, as well as parents - the support they give to their children is vital in helping them fulfil their potential. We have come a long way in recent years, and have consolidated on this. I think that the efforts of teachers, and more importantly pupils and parents need to be talked up, many of our schools have strong links within the community and I have seen much evidence in the past year of greater parental involvement in childrens' education, this is something which cannot be underestimated in this age group and needs to be encouraged even further. But let's not get too carried away with the results, we have only managed to achieve parity with the vast majority of other primary schools nationwide, it would be nice to crow and beat our breasts when we are outperforming the majority, and I'm sure we can!
